Overview
An organization's culture drives how it conducts business and executes its strategies and people’s behavior significantly influences decision-making, risk appetite, and overall performance. However still many audit function fail to integrate culture or behavior assessments in the audit work.
Understanding and influencing behavior is crucial for any organization and internal auditors can make a significant contribution in this area. In fact, it is expected. It's no surprise that this topic is receiving more attention from the professional community, board members, and regulators and the new Global Internal Audit Standards (GIAS 2024) even emphasize that internal auditors should promote and foster an ethics-based culture within the organization.
However, often culture and behavior are not truly embedded in the internal audit cycle. This is a missed opportunity. Without explicit and structured research on culture and behavior, blind spots remain unnoticed. Moreover, without insight, effective steering towards a healthy culture that promotes ethical behavior, risk awareness, job satisfaction, and innovation cannot be achieved.
An interactive session is scheduled with a deep dive in questions such as
- Why does understanding of culture matter?
- What contributions can research on culture and behavior make to the organization?
- What lessons can we learn from past practical experiences?”
Agenda
